Callous burglars caused damage estimated to be worth thousands of pounds.
Halton Play Council, which provides activities for youngsters with additional needs, described the blow to its work as “heartbreaking”.
The break-in was the second time the charity has been targeted in about six weeks.
Although nothing was taken, damage to the fire doors has been estimated to be worth thousands of pounds.
Helen Leslie, project coordinator, said the cash would otherwise have been used to provide activities and clubs for children.
She said the burglary has been “unsettling” for staff, who have worked through the pandemic.
